Media personality, Rashan Ali will moderate a panel of Human Resources leaders including Tim Goodly (Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United), Camye Mackey (Atlanta Hawks) and DeRetta Rhodes (Atlanta Braves) to examine the importance of diversity and inclusion and best practices to create a culture of inclusion, acceptance and respect
About The Speakers:
With a passion for all things media and empowering young women, Rashan Ali is as a formidable and revered personality within the sports and entertainment industries. She believes in “Doing Media Differently.” Rashan's unique perspective and passion for sports has resulted in side-line reporting for the Atlanta Hawks (2005 – 2009), the Southern Conference Sports Network (2011), the Atlanta Football Classic for NBC Sports Network (2011-2012), college football and basketball for CBS Sports Network (2012-2015) and for the Chick-Fil-A Bowl Preview Show, which aired on ESPN 2 and ESPN U. She was also the Social Media Correspondent for NBA TV’s “GameTime” during the NBA Playoffs (2010 – 2013) and worked on the network’s show “Fantasy Insider” in the same capacity for two seasons.
Tim Goodly joined the AMB Sports + Entertainment executive leadership team as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer in October of 2018.
He brings a wealth of experience including 16 years at Turner Broadcasting System where he led HR functions across multiple sports, entertainment, news and sales divisions. Prior to joining Turner, Tim had senior HR roles with PepsiCo, Mobil Corporation and spent five years in the service of our country with the Army Corp of Engineers. Most recently, Tim has led his own consultancy where he provided specialized executive coaching and management advisory services to colleges and universities, city and government agencies, non-profits and private firms across the country.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an MBA from Tulane University and a PhD in Organizational Development from Benedictine University
Vice President and Chief People, Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena. In her role as the club’s top Human Resources and Diversity executive, Mackey leads the team responsible for strategic development and implementation of the people philosophy and culture. Mackey’s priorities are leadership development, employee culture, embedding diversity and inclusion within all aspects of the business and providing the essential link between employee engagement and guest experience. This includes the overall implementation of the company’s S.M.I.L.E. service philosophy, which is rooted in southern hospitality and employee empowerment. Under her leadership, the Hawks won the Most Effective Recruitment Strategy award in the 2019 HR Excellence Awards presented by Atlanta Business Chronicle, and the Front Office Sports 2019 Best Employers in Sports.
Prior to joining the Hawks, Mackey established a proven track record of leadership experience within diverse companies and industries that included positions with MGM Resorts International, Walt Disney World, Special Olympics International and B. F. Saul Hospitality Group (owned and operated Hilton, Marriott International and Intercontinental properties). In addition, she owned and operated a full-service HR Consulting firm that serviced notable clients such as the American Red Cross, Walt Disney World, George Mason University, Health Central Hospital and Special Olympics Florida.
Mackey holds an M.A. in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix and a B.B.A. in Business Management from Howard University. She has spoken at several human resource conferences and served on the board of directors at Virginia Tech’s Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Special Olympics Florida and currently resides on the Atlanta CHRO Governing Body and is a SHRM-Atlanta Board Member.
Mackey calls Milton, GA home and enjoys an active lifestyle with her husband, Karl, and three daughters Jazmin, Jada and Julia.
DeRetta Rhodes, Ph.D. joined the Atlanta Braves in 2019 as Senior Vice President of Human Resources, overseeing people capital initiatives for the organization’s Major League, Minor League and The Battery Atlanta operations.
Prior to joining the Braves, Dr. Rhodes was the Executive Vice President/Chief Human Resources Officer of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta, Vice President of Human Resources at First Data, Vice President of Human Resources for Turner Broadcasting and held leadership positions at Ernst & Young, ADP, HomeGrocer.com and YUM Brand.
Dr. Rhodes received her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, her Master’s in Business Administration from Clark Atlanta University and her Ph.D. in adult education from the University of Georgia. She is a certified facilitator for the Benchmark 360 assessment by the Center for Creative Leadership, DISC coach and facilitator, qualified facilitator for the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and HOGAN Assessment.
She is currently a Board Director Member and Member Engagement Chair of Human Resource Leadership Forum (HRLF), Board Director Member of Goodwill of North Georgia, Board Member and Board Chair of Board Effectiveness of 21st Century Leaders, Advisory Member of HR Exchange Network and past President of the Alumni Board of Family Consumer Science College at the University of Georgia.
Dr. Rhodes lives in Atlanta, Georgia with her husband, Leon and has three sons: Cole, Austin and Jordan.
